  • Scope Note

    • As per the House Style Manual, Version 7, State of Palestine should appear under the letter "S" when listed in alphabetical order among country names. (Source: JUR, July 2025)
    • Consequent to the adoption of the resolution on the status of Palestine in the ILO and participation rights of Palestine in the ILO meetings by the International Labour Conference at its 113th Session (2025), Palestine is invited to participate in ILO meetings as a non-member observer State. As a result, Palestine can be referred to as a “State” or “country” and be included in alphabetic list of States. As of 6 June 2025, the designation “State of Palestine”, instead of “Palestine” should be used, both as full and short name, for all official purposes. While the term "Palestinian Authority" may be used for historical or other references depending on the context, it is preferable that the terms “authorities of the State of Palestine” or the “Government of the State of Palestine” are used to refer to the political authority. When referring to the geographical entity, the proper use is "Occupied Palestinian Territory", which covers the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. When there is a need to refer to the occupied Syrian Golan in addition to those territories, the term "occupied Arab territories" should be used. (Source: JUR, June 2025)
